Sick-Related Leave: Is It Giving You A Headache?
November 30, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am
$25Legal Beagle Bagel Breakfast – November 2023
The Legislature enacted Paid Sick Leave in 2014 requiring employers to provide 24 hours of sick leave to employees, no questions asked. For 2024, the Legislature increased PSL to 40 hours per employee. California and federal law also provide leave to employees who experience certain types of health conditions. For example, the law provides for time off due to pregnancy disability, serious health condition, domestic abuse, lactation, physical or mental disability, organ donation and work-related illnesses and injuries. How do business owners and HR professionals distinguish between the leaves and coordinate them properly? What questions, documentation and certification can be obtained for which leaves? How does an employer prevent or reduce abuse of leaves related to illness or injury?
- Join us at our next Legal Beagle Bagel Breakfast, Thursday, November 30th at 9:00 a.m. to learn more about the new PSL obligations and other sick-related leave employers must provide.
- What are the new PSL requirements for 2024?
- What showing must an employee make to take PSL?
- How does an employer prevent abuse of PSL?
- Can an employer run PSL concurrently with other leaves?
- When can an employer ask for medical or other certification for a sick-related leave?
- Can an employer reduce vacation or PTO benefits to reduce its burden to provide sick-related leave?
