As HR Professionals, we often focus on the administrative aspects of managing leaves of absence, and we all remember those frustrating situations where an employee seemed to take advantage of the system. However, it’s important to balance that frustration with the understanding that many employees have a legitimate need for leave, and are entitled to clear information about their rights, as well as support from management throughout the process.
This presentation will demonstrate how clear policies, a consistent administrative process, and empathetic management can turn a leave of absence from a potential morale challenge into an opportunity to foster employee loyalty and long-term productivity, which benefits both employees and the organization.
Learning Objectives
- General information about FMLA/CFRA leave eligibility and qualifying reasons for leave
- Best practices for leave administration and tracking
- How to communicate LOA policies to employees before, during, and after their leave to avoid misunderstandings and preserve positive relationships
- How to communicate with managers and other staff to reduce frustration
- The benefits of an employee experience-focused leave process, in terms of employee retention, productivity, and morale.
